Enjoy the strong summer spirit of beautiful golden yellow Rudbeckia flowers in contrast with the delicacy of that pale purple jug, both set against the light 'hardly there' pastel strokes that form the upper background of my beloved art print, Sunshine and Lavender.
This artwork demonstrates the different kinds of energy I put into making art with pastels and shows very clearly my intuitive freestyle method for using them.
It's so exciting to be able to use pastels to create strong substantial strokes that give life to the art - made with some force to produce the richest line of colour I can - and at the same time to be able to make a delicate mist of wider strokes for the finest, lightest covering of the paper.
Additionally, the colour and texture of the paper show through the pastel strokes, creating 'mazes' or 'networks' (my own terms!) of tiny dips of contrast. Pastels really are fantastic!
Take a close look to really get to know the varied range of strokes I use in my pastel art.
