RED TULIPS IN A PINK POT floral art print
RED TULIPS IN A PINK POT floral art print
Red Tulips in a Pink Pot is a painting that, unusually, took a little while to get just right.
It's funny how you can start something and the way it develops is very different to the initial idea. Well, this is one of those. Only in the colours though.
The spontaneous way I create the initial drawing isn't something that can be changed once the ink is drying on the canvas. And black acrylic ink is inky stuff so I have to make sure I'm happy with the initial spreads and smudges that you see in my Fantastic Flowers paintings, then let it dry thoroughly before adding any colour. If the drawing isn't working, I have to start again.
So, luckily, I'd got this drawing just right. But I'd imagined painting yellow flowers in a pale pink pot! Sometimes you just can't predict how something will come out, even a simple colour scheme. So when the yellow/pink picture was just looking 'too pale' rather than the 'delicate' I'd had in my head, I had to think again.
I added red and yellow washes to the yellow tulips, leaving some parts yellow and building up some nice oranges here and there, which gave the flowers a more solid feel. The pot received rich washes of lovely magenta, crimson and other reds and so the colour eventually gained lots of depth and vibrancy. Just the way I like it! So, after a restrained start, I had something I was really happy with.
And here's another funny thing. Before I started to write this, I didn't think I had much to say about this painting! You just can't tell what will happen when you start something, can you?
Purposely bold, bright and lively, my Fantastic Flowers prints are a selection of colourful statement-piece artworks taken from my original paintings in acrylic inks. Created with movement, energy and freedom, the Fantastic Flowers collection is the epitome of expressive floral art.
